Seen using version 3 alpha 1 (20070228).
STR:
1. Go to default programs.
2. Review list, which includes three entries for Thunderbird.
3. Only one entry is identified as [News], so you can't tell which of the other two is the default for Mail or RSS.
Screenshot attached.

Not seeing the same behavior using a different machine which had never had Tbird installed. I installed Tbird and made it the default for mail, news, and RSS, but only two entries show up in the default programs list. The only difference between my two testing scenarios is that in my initial report I was using an existing profile and yesterday's nightly build, while today I created a new profile and used today's nightly build, version 3 alpha 1 (20070301).

This turned out to be a show stopper and I fixed it in Bug 373403.
