I set up local build of remora and will be testing pl localization in the next days...
Zbigniew: any progress on your testing? Are we ready for release?
go-ahead from snowy helsinki comes in :)
Wil, apart from the static pages (which we should have soon), is there anything else needed to add Polish localization to AMO?
Hi Marek,

There is a list of categories and add-on types that should be translated here:

http://wiki.mozilla.org/User:Shaver/Remora_Categories

They show up on pages like:

http://preview.addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse

Just attaching them to this bug is fine. They're separate because they are actually stored in a database instead of a .po file.

Looking good - thanks. :)

I put the translated version of the Remora Categories on wiki.
http://wiki.mozilla.org/User:Marcoos/Remora_Categories

I'd like someone to proof-read it, though. Hubert, Zbigniew?
Remora Categories for pl (UTF-8).
Summary: [pl] gettext for AMO → gettext for AMO (pl)
Translation of files:
developer_agreement.thtml,
error404.thtml,
nomination.thtml,
sandbox.thtml (without http://wiki.mozilla.org/Update:Remora_Sandbox_Flowchart)
submission_help.thtml
These are OK, Hubert is also going to attach the Remora_Sandbox_Flowchart strings here in an hour or two.

Wil, after we have those strings, will anything be still stopping us from making the Polish version of AMO live?

http://wiki.mozilla.org/User:Zwierz/Update:Remora_Sandbox_Flowchart
Updating bug title to be in line with localizers' guide (http://wiki.mozilla.org/Update:Localizers)
Summary: gettext for AMO (pl) → AMO Localization (pl)
http://svn.mozilla.org/addons/trunk/site/app/locale/en_US/pages/policy.thtml is the only page left that needs to be translated.

Once this language is live, there will be several strings that need translating from the localizer control panel.
Wil, we're working on the policy file in our local Bugzilla <http://bugs.aviary.pl/show_bug.cgi?id=1115>, I also merged the new strings into messages.po and we're working on having it up-to-date as well.
Component: Public Pages → Localization

I'm reassigning the localization bugs to the people that reported them. AMO developers will still get emails when the bug is changed, and we're still available to help.

When your translation work is finished, feel free to resolve your bug.

I've enabled this locale on the staging site:

http://remora.stage.mozilla.com/pl/firefox/

Once the locale goes live, you'll have access to the localizer control panel, where you can localize the last few dynamic strings (like category names).

Since we have English fallback, and most of the translations are done, I'm comfortable pushing this locale live at any time. We could schedule it to go with our next update if you'd like - just let me know.

Thanks.
We should have a new, more complete messages.po in a few days, so I think we should wait until then before pushing this live.
I have SVN access to the repository and I have just updated the messages.po file on stage with a "rc1" aka "almost final" version. I did this, as the old one was barely usable with too many placeholder texts.
Wil, for a few minutes I had access to the localizer control panel, but now it's been revoked.

My user id on AMO is marcoos@aviary.pl.

Can I get it back? I already updated the categories there...
You're still the only one in that group - you should still have access.

We've had some weird issues (bug 378835) but you should be alright. Give it another try?
Now it's OK again. :)

We should have the final version of messages.po on Monday, but it'd still be nice to replace the current Polish messages.mo on the live site with the one on stage (developer panel needs that badly).
I committed a change that pulled "pl" out of the dropdown list on the live site - it wasn't supposed to be there yet, sorry.

Not sure when the change will take place, and if it's not soon enough, we can revert it.

You'd still be able to check pl localization by manually typing "pl" in the url.
Can you push the current trunk to the production server? The localization is complete.

We may still need to fix a few strings here and there, but this is now production-ready and more useful than what can be seen on addons.mozilla.org/pl at this time.

Oh, and you didn't successfully pull the old one from the list. Also, the http headers-based redirects are in place, so Polish users still see that old and incomplete version.
Thanks Marek.

I did remove the old one from the list, but the production site hasn't been updated yet. Regardless, I've put pl back in the list, so you shouldn't see any change in that case.

I expect we'll update the live site this week, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Site is updated.
Marking this fixed, as the site has been live for a few weeks.

Hi,

This is just a friendly reminder that I'm sending to all the AMO L10n bugs:

The 3.2 redesign is going live in just over a week and a half. If you can't make the schedule or you have any questions please let me know. If you've already updated your locales, thanks so much - they're looking great. :)
pl is ready for 3.2, I think. I've updated the .po & .mo files and made the necessary changes to pages/*.

Is there anything else to do?
Just double check the category names are complete on the live site. We tweaked the English names and added some new ones for the search engines. Otherwise, I think we're all good. :) Thanks.

There are a couple of very prominent strings that aren't localized (still fuzzy in the .po). They are on the bottom left of https://preview.addons.mozilla.org/pl/firefox/

Hey Marek - I got an email from Wojciech today that said he would be taking over the localization. Is that true? If so, thanks for your hard work and best of luck in the future. :) If not, say something here. :)
Yes, Wojciech will take over as AMO's Polish localization lead.

As the Firefox Polish localization owner, I'll still be helping with AMO when needed. :)

A reminder about an outdated string: (Background in bug 426582) The string "feature_reviews" was changed to include the number of reviews and your translation hasn't been updated to reflect that. The English localization is:

msgid "feature_reviews"
msgid_plural "feature_reviews"
msgstr[0] "%1$s review"
msgstr[1] "%1$s reviews"

Please update your .po file with the pluralization when you can. If you need help let me know.
There should be three plural forms here.

0 -> "%1$s recenzja"
1 -> "%1$s recenzje"
2 -> "%1$s recenzji"

The .po file has a correct Polish Plural Form Expression, so if you're using a real l10n tool like poedit or KBabel, adding the third form should be pretty straightforward.

If you're using a plain text editor, simply add:

msgstr[2] "%1$s recenzji"

I've also realized that there are a few untranslated strings. Wojciech, please tell me, if you need any help with this (or ask the whole team for help).
It'd be nice to have AMO fully localized again for Fx 3 RC 2 :)
Thanks, I committed the fix.
Which, on one hand, is great, but on the other, I hoped Wojciech would do it, to get more acquainted with stuff like these. :)
whoops! I'll leave it next time. :)
Hi,
I have access to SVN, but I also need access to dynamic data (like categories, add-on types etc.) My AMO login is "witia@aviary.pl".

Thanks.

And another question - we would like to change polish localization name from 'polski' to 'Polski' (first letter uppercase). Can I do it myself somewhere? I don't see this option in localizer tools.

That would change it everywhere across all Mozilla sites. I'll need approval from Marek if you want to do that.
Generally, the word "polski" is an adjective, and as such should be written all lowercase.
(In reply to comment #45)
> Generally, the word "polski" is an adjective, and as such should be written all
> lowercase.

That's true, but I think we should also consider the fact that there is a tradition of starting with an uppercase letter in various UI elements, like drop down menus and select boxes. Following this tradition, I think "Polski" is the way to go.

We already use uppercase "P" on mozilla-europe.org: http://informationisart.com/stas/screenshots/Picture_1-20080618-102806.jpg
as well as on the Download Day website, and I think it looks good this way (imagine "polski" there as the only lowercase name..)

Also, we use uppercase in Firefox in the encoding menu (again, following the UI pattern): http://informationisart.com/stas/screenshots/Picture_2-20080618-104605.jpg

Marek, let's make it "Polski".
At http://www.mozilla.com/pl/firefox/all.html it's lowercase among many others...

I am just unsure which way is the right one here, as this is not only an issue regarding Polish, but, say, Slovakian and Russian as well.

I'm OK with any coherent global solution.
Ok, let's make it "Polski".

Thanks for all your help! :)
