Env: Firefox 3 nightly build 20070313, either JAWS 8.0.1163U 2/27 or Window Eyes 6.0
Contents "Don't worry, be happy" of the pop up dialog alert window is not spoken with the above AT's.
Steps to recreate:
1. Bring up www.weba11y/Examples/button.html ARIA button examples.
2. Tab down to the simple image button, press enter.
3. Notice the pop up alert dialog window appears, the above AT's do not speak the contents of the window Don't worry, be happy.
This might be a regression because I spoke to the author of this example and she stated that the pop up was read fine with Firefox 2.0.02.
additional note: When the pop up alert window is drawn there should also be a sound that alerts the user that a dialog window has popped up.

Additional info: Trying to group similar reported problems. Note if you have multiple buttons that create alert windows, for example http://www.mozilla.org/access/dhtml/alert# you will notice that the dialog for each of the alert windows will be spoken twice.

Wayne, thanks for your work here. Your description mentions the alert window not getting spoken and it looks like your report bug 346722 captures that problem better.
I'm changing the summary to more specifically capture the example you link to in comment #1 where a div node with wairole:alert is added to the DOM. Please complain here if I've misunderstood.
Summary: Dialog Alert Window contents not spoken within ARIA Simple Image Button example → When nodes with wairole:alert are given focus screen readers are not alerted.

The issue with ARIA alerts that Wayne mentions in comment 1 is a JAWS bug.
David, you mention Wayne's comment 1 but he's talking about double-speaking the alert -- you changed the summary to something about alerts no being spoken at all.
If there's still a Mozilla bug related to wairole:alert please file a new bug -- this bug is a bit confused now.
