If you start Mozilla haing more than one profile the Select User Profile dialog
is shown.
Here it says:
"To access your personal profile, which contains your mail, settings and other
personalized information, please choose your profile from the list, and click
Start Mozilla to begin your session."

if you press the Manage Profiles buttons suddenly the text says:
"Mozilla stores information about your settings, preferences, bookmarks, saved
messages and other user items in your user profile."

Why are there two different texts?
This is by design. One is instructional, the other is informational.

Come on...
First you talk about "mail, settings and other personalized information" and
suddenly just because you press a button you talk about "settings, preferences,
bookmarks, saved messages and other user items".

Why not use the same terms, instead of suddendly talking about saved messages
and not mail?

I have a hard time accepting this. Cc'ing verah for help...:)

I really cant see way we have to talk about to different things just because the
user presses a button.

It must be me...:)

Reassigning to myself and setting to M20. This means we'll look at this text
when we do our user text cleanup. Right now we are too doomed with other bugs to
focus on the cleanup, but we will get to it, I promise.

Okay, here's what I think: The blurb in the initial dialog is too long. And it's
not necessary to explain in this context what a profile is. Therefore, I
advocate this change:

"Choose a profile and click Start Mozilla." or
"Choose a profile and click Start Netscape 6."

Reasoning: Only users who have more than one profile will see this dialog, and
these users are highly likely to already know what a profile is. If anyone is
confused, he/she can press "Manage Profiles," and presto! An explanation
appears.

Reassigning back to Ben.

I think the text in both dialogs is a hangover from the time when Netscape Tech
Pubs were under the illusion that Mozilla wouldn't need context-sensitive help
buttons in the chrome, if only the UI could be spammed with plenty of omnipresent
help text that you couldn't get rid of.

The text in both dialogs should go, and it should be replaced with help buttons.
Until then, there's no harm in getting rid of the text from the `Select Profile'
dialog.

Coincidentally, I was redesigning the Select Profile dialog just today ...

( _New User ... ) ( _Edit Profiles ... )
are you creating users or creating profiles? I think it's hard to create a
user [requires lots of water, food, ...] let's stick to profiles.

Bulk reopening incorrectly expired bugs - no activity does not constitute no bug - these need proper checking.

I don't see us changing this by itself, unless we completely redesign the profile manager, which I also see no reason for right now. All in all, we (probably) just won't "fix" this.
