Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/419 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/419.3
Build Identifier: version 1.5.0.10 (20070221)
If I change the name of the root partition then Thunderbird hangs apon startup without a Quit menu item and with Alt-Q not exiting. The only way out is to Force Quit the application. The path remains the same to my profile (/Users/myName/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/xg7ka22t.default) but for some reason Thunderbird won't start. I tried creating another profile off somewhere else in my home directory but it had the same response.
As a work-around I can move/hide my old profile. Thunderbird will create a new default profile that requies me to re-enter all my IMAP and POP settings for my various e-mail accounts then I have to copy over all my old contents.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click on the name of the boot drive on the Mac desktop and change its name.
2. Start Thunderbird -- hangs, can't see e-mail, can't quit, no error messages.
3. Command-Option-Escape to Fore Quit Thunderbird.
4. Click on the name of the boot drive on the Mac desktop and change its name back.
5. Start Thunderbird -- runs fine.
Actual Results:
I spend several hours re-constructing my inboxes and old e-mail messages with the new volume name.
Expected Results:
It should not care what the volume name is. It does not appear in the path to any of the files. It should run the same before or after the name change. If it doesn't it should give some diagnostic, e.g., unable to file profile, or checksum mismatch on volume name, or something.
Apparently no data is actually lost as long as the user does not panic.

Do we expect this would still happen on a Mac?
