Details
In the newly upgraded mailman form submits are to an http: address rather than the https: (SSL) address of the page. You get a modal alert on every submit warning of the insecure address, and none of the changes "take".

oh, this setting appears to be list-specific, too. which list is it?

ok, got a script set up to scan them all, and found about 40 (out of the 60 or so lists) that had http instead of https in them. modified the script to fix them and ran it, they should be all set now.
