User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.1.2) Gecko/20070219 Firefox/2.0.0.2
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.1.2) Gecko/20070219 Firefox/2.0.0.2

Error always occurs. DLM (download manager) assigns random file name "5zfcwiy0.xls" to file that should have been named "Firefox 2.0.0.2.dmg" (named correctly using Safari dwnld). Sometimes file is usable by renaming if correct name is known - sometimes it is corrupt or one gets an error message that the file is unrecognizable. After downloading and reinstalling FF this evening - even though build # had not changed said was newer file version - DLM is still assigning random name as above with correct extension of ".dmg". However still get error message that file is not recognizable. Latest patches to OS in place 10.4.9 and latest versions of Stuffit in place. Bottom line have to go to another browser to reliably download files - Definitely a headache.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Firefox default browser in OSX
2.Attempt to download latest version of FF from download site
3. Download usually does not start automatically - Have to trigger - and always results in randomly named file that is usually corrupt and usually has the wrong extension -"xls" for Excel spread sheet or after reinstall of FF today random file name with correct "dmg" extension but corrupt unrecognizable file.
Actual Results:
incorrectly name corrupt file with incorrect extension

Expected Results:
correctly named file-not corrupt - should be recognizable "dmg" file for installation of update software or file
This occurs when attempting to download files from any site - Have been updating all software packages and have experienced from all sites. Not site specific problem. PDF files have been correctly named and downloaded. Seems to be disk image files that this problem is occurring with.
Do you see a save dialog asking for a filename to save the file as? Firefox uses the "random file name" as a temporary location as it's downloading the file in the background before you choose a name. After you choose a filename, it'll use "<the name you picked>.part" and rename it to the correct file when finished.

The reason why the file is sometimes corrupt is probably because you're renaming the file before the download finishes.

=> Incomplete. Sounds like the reporter was renaming the file before it completed downloading, but could not confirm with the reporter.
