I store mail on a courier-imap server, which uses procmail to sort messages in to several dozen folders.

In order for me to get the settings I want, I must go into _each and every_ folder and specify: decending sort order (by date), threaded view, check this folder for new messages, don't delete any messages, select this folder for offline use.

This wouldn't be too horrible, except that thunderbird "forgets" these settings. It takes two or three tries to get these settings to "stick".
