User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727) Build Identifier: Firefox 2.0.0.3 Same as John Chirigos--On initializing, the first display page causes a window to pop up indicating a C++ runtime error - buffer overflow which aborts Firefox. This is new as I have been using version 2 for a while. It must be some interference from another program or a windows update. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox several times and got the same problem. Using PC Tools antivirus and Spyware Doctor spyware. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual Results: Open display page in Firefox. It aborts every time indicating C++ buffer overrun error Software used to open every page every time. Change is recent, though after installation of PC Tools antivirus a couple of weeks ago. Have been using Firefox 2.0 all along and just updated to latest version.

Can you paste the complete error message or attach a screenshot?
What does "Same as John Chirigos" refer to?
I apologize--He had submitted a similar bug report and I neglected to note the number.
John Chirigos' bug is bug 366321.
(In reply to comment #1) > Can you paste the complete error message or attach a screenshot? I could not capture a screen shot. The text of the error message is as follows: "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library (at the top of the message, with the body of the message as follows) Buffer Overrun Detected! Program:C\Program Files\Mozilla\Firefox\firefox.exe A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated."
Fwiw, a Google search for "Buffer Overrun Detected!" mostly turns up threads where the conclusion is that the error message is triggered by spyware.
(In reply to comment #4) > John Chirigos' bug is bug 366321. > I just marked that one invalid since it was due to browster. Bjarne, please check if running in safe mode or disabling your extensions resolves this problem. Bug 374963 is another report related to PC Tools.
It would appear that it was not spy ware that caused the problem--scans indicated neither spy ware nor any virus present--but my spy ware program, Spyware Doctor, that caused the problem. Uninstalling Spyware Doctor resulted in Firefox then running normally. Thanks to everyone who helped on this.
