Extensions and Themes sub-categories not localized. The only exception are the Firefox extensions sub-categories.

Can't test Sunbird because of bug 373330.
As I recall, we didn't localize those because we were considering renaming/adding/deleting them to make them more useful. CCing shaver for his input.
I thought we did that, but maybe not for the other apps? We should contact the app owners and get them to provide some appropriate categories to start from, perhaps.
I'm adding app owners to get their opinions.

App owners: Can you review the categories listed below for relevance to your application? If there are better categories for people find helpful add-ons, please let us know. If you're happy with what's there, I'll add them to the list for localization. I would like to eliminate "Miscellaneous" as a category, since it just becomes a general catchall.

Thunderbird:

The "Dictionaries" and "Lanuguages" categories look wrong, maybe a category "Language Tools" for those add-ons that aren't actual languages?
That's true, I should mention what we're using for the firefox categories:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:1
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:2

In that case, it turned into "Language Support and Translation" - staying consistent with the firefox categories (where appropriate, of course) would be a good thing.
Maybe SeaMonkey could simply merge the Firefox and Thunderbird lists?
Several extensions work in two or three applications anyway.

If duplicating the firefox categories for SeaMonkey works for you, I'm happy with it.
Copying Firefox' themes category list for SeaMonkey sounds fine to me, as well as Copying the Firefox+Thunderbird extensions category lists to a merged SeaMonkey list.
Reassigning to lilmatt to get sunbird categories, so we can fix 373330.

I'm taking over for lilmatt (as discussed).

We have decided on the following extension categories for Sunbird.
* Providers
* Language Support and Translation
* Calendar Enhancements

The low number of categories is intended, since there are not so many extensions for Sunbird and we are still at a pre-1.0 release. Creating too many categories will result in many categories being empty, which will definitely degrade user experience.

Of course we need a themes category, but this is extra anyway.

Perfect - can you give me a short description of each that we can list on the page as well?

> Of course we need a themes category, but this is extra anyway.

I'm not sure what "extra" means here, but right now there are no theme categories. Even though it's not as organized as I'd like, since sunbird is so young, I'm inclined to just add a "general" category for now. Objections? (If you actually have theme categories, by all means, let me know)

I updated the seamonkey categories today to match firefox. We remapped the same categories that we did for firefox, and any that didn't fit we mapped to a "Miscellaneous" category.

I know I said I'd rather not have a category like that, and we might try to find a way to get rid of it in the future, but we noticed that a lot of our add-ons were not in any category since our last migration, and they had to go somewhere.
* Calendar Enhancements

Improve the usability of Sunbird using these add-ons which create birthday lists, allow to manipulate hidden settings or manage events and task very easy with small helpers like date calculators.

* Providers

Providers allow you to access a time management system - local, intranet or internet - for reading and writing events and tasks. This can make your data compatible to other software or provide you access to your data from other computers. A popular example is the Provider for Google Calendar extension.

* Language Support and Translation

These add-ons provide you with tools for working with multiple languages, including translation.

Regarding themes: A "general" category is perfect.
Thanks Philipp!

I'm happy to say that sunbird add-ons are now browsable with the addition of those categories. Since there are only two themes right now, I added them to the "general" category. All the extension categories are currently empty, but I encourage the authors to add their add-ons to a category to make them browsable by the public.

As I look back at the original comment when this bug was filed, I see I've led us astray - my apologies. When this bug was filed, I don't think we had a localizer control panel. Since the introduction of the control panel, localizers have direct access to the translation of those sub categories, so if they aren't localized for a particular locale, you should post in that locales bug (named "AMO Localization (xx)").

That said, please give the localizers time to catch up with any category changes I've done in the past couple days.
