Build Identifier: version 1.5.0.5 (20060719) + version 1.5.0.10

In accounts with a lot of nested subfolders, access to the subfolders can become tricky. They show up fine on the left hand site and can be expanded just as usual. If you now try to move amessage from the Inbox to a subfolder below the second nested level, the program will just do nothing. Memory usage skyrockets and even closing thunderbird will not terminate the process. After a few minutes it might disappear. If you right click the message instead and move the message through the move message context menue it works fine. Thios problem only occures when using Drag&Drop. At startup Thunderbird takes a very long time at 'opening folders'. Drag&Drop will work if you clicked through the destination path before during the running session. So, as long as you clicked at the folder you are going to move the message to and all levels above that destination folder, it will work.
The profile was recreated in order to get rid of the msf files completely and every folder was compacted multiple times. The email accounts in question are all several GB large and contain a lot of subfolders.

When that happens, the email application will hang for several minutes without any visible indication of failure, but will not display new emails, will not send Emails and will not move any other Emails into other subfolders (including copying into the INBOX.Sent folder). Namespaces are set correctly.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.windows XP client / imap server
2. a lot of nested subfolders under the INBOX
3. a lot of messages in the account
4. Drag&Drop Email from the INbox into a sublevel nested folder

Expected Results:
Drag&Drop should work fine.
Dennis, does this happen with version 2?

Summary: Multiple problems with nested imap folders exceeding level2 → Problem moving or copying using drag and drop to nested imap subfolders exceeding level2
Hi Wayne,

in version 2 the application does no longer die completely.
Still access to imap folders below level 2 is extremely slow and more often than
not I have to close and reopen thunderbird in order to see all subfolders (closing the folder tree and reopening is not always enough).
Once they show up I can work with them. Drag and Drop to deeper
folder hierarchies will be often slow, but it will no longer freeze the application.
Folders are compacted on a regular basis as well, so this should not be the problem.

Kindest regards
Dennis
Dennis: I admit that getting you to try newer and newer versions of Thunderbird means it looks like we're punting on your problem, but could you try 3.0a1?

Gerv
Hello,

seems like this neww version solved the issue. It is still quite slow when getting below the 3rd sublevel, but Thunderbird neither hangs nor crashes any more.
It consumes in this case just above 100MB of memory.

Kindest regards
Dennis
