User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; zh-TW; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; zh-TW; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3
I found that the URL kept at my homepage, yes, I could open new tabs, change them, or do anything else, but the URL just didn't change. When I typed a new URL and pressed Enter, it would show the new URL and open it in the new tab, but the URL then fixed at this new one...
I've reinstall to 2.0.0.2, but the problem persisted. Then I tried to open a new profile, the problem gone. But when I tried to backup my profile to the new one using the extension "Firefox Extension Backup Extension 4.0.4p," the problem reappeared again. So...what's the problem?
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Just...when I open the browser.

Something in your profile, I assume. Probably an extension or theme.

Yeah, I thought so too, so I reinstalled all my extensions one by one today. The strange thing is that this problem seems to appear suddenly, maybe when I open a random tab at some time, but not appear just after I open Firefox. So I found that it didn't have any relationship with any extensions...

Can you try running with a new profile for a while and see if you can reproduce this without any extensions? Presumably, if it happens spontaneously, you'll need to run with each individual extension for a while to see if it'll reproduce.

Thanks for all, I found the problem today. The extension FEBE 4.0.4p restored my extensions, including "Skype extension for Firefox." When it was installed, everything was fine. But when I hide its button from the menu bar, the problem appeared. Then I made it displayed again, the problem disappeared. It's...weird.

I have recently encountered the problem described above. It is fairly new and very annoying. But I can't recall exactly when it started. Also, because my firefox updates itself often I can't easily go back to a known version, unless someone can point me at old tar files that I can fetch and install.
I am using firefox on Linux on PC. Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3
Symptom: when I start up firefox "open new tab" produces a new tab with no URL
showing -- for a while. Then after a while, for no reason that I can discern, the behaviour suddenly changes and thereafter if I open a new tab, the URL of the previous tab is copied over (though the tab is empty).
Unlike tcnineteen (in comment #4) I am not using FEBE or a skype extension for firefox. So I suspect the reported diagnosos of the problem must be wrong.
It may be caused by an extension, though I don't think I have installed any new extensions recently. On the contrary, when Firefox updates I typically get a message saying some old extension has been disabled because it no longer works.
I could try removing all my current extensions and trying them in different combinations to see if the problem goes away, though I shall not have time to do that immediately.
I have a suspicion that it is associated with recent use of a 'secure' site, but I am not sure.
However I can report a feature of the bug not mentioned above, namely, I can clear the unwanted URL from the new tab by selecting an older tab, then selecting the new tab again. At that point the unwanted url disappears!
I thought mentioning that might give an expert some idea of the cause.
My suspicion is that it is a side effect of a recent change in firefox.
Unfortunately I am not able to do direct debugging or programming for firefox.

Extensions can become incompatible with every update because the Firefox code has changed. And also an unclean install can cause problems. So maybe it would help to reinstall Firefox in a new empty folder, make a new profile and redownload and reinstall all of your extensions.
