After running a search and finding various messages double clicking any of the messages returned in the search results window opens an empty window (see attachment).  Once this window is opened if I edit it as new, reply or forward the edit window opens as expected with all contents in place.


Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Execute a search
2. Open any message from the search results window

Actual Results:  
An empty window opens

Expected Results:  
A window containing the message should open

Problem is identical in both the Thunderbird Default and the Walnut themes.

Possibly an extension problem? Have you tried disabling them all? Anything in the error console?

Problem can again be replicated.

Additional information:

When I right click my inbox (or any other) folder and search the message window will be blank only when the following two conditions are met:

The folder is set to VIEW \ THREADS \ unread
AND
the message has previously been marked as read

If the message is marked unread then it will open normally.

If the folder is set to VIEW \ THREADS \ all the messages will open normally.

Problem is recreated with trunk nightly version 3.0a1 (20070413) on Win-XP SP2.
 1. Set View/Threads/Unread => No mails is displayed for a folder at thread pane.
 2. From context menu of the folder, execute "Search" => Some mails are found
 3. Double click a mail in search result => Blank mail window is opened

Following error message was issued in Error Console when the blank mail window was opened. (latest-trunk 2007/5/13 build, MS Win-XP SP2)

Tried with some previous builds also.
Does this happen with all types - local, pop, imap?

I'm also unable to re-produce problem with trunk 2007/9/06 build.
When test procedure in comment #6, opened mail window was not blank, was normal, and no error message in Error Console.
I tested with local mail folder of "Local Folders", real POP3 account, and dummy POP3 account. Sorry but I can't test with IMAP because I don't have IMAP account.

No, I don't think so - or they might, but at least this is much easier to reproduce. Bug 309184 and bug 330258 look fairly dupish of each other though.

rebuild index of imap folder resolved for me.

encountered this yesterday, using trunk build version 3.0a1pre (2007112004).
additional tests showed problem 
a) is persistent across restart of thunderbird
b) did not depend on the offending message not being in the currently selected folder, i.e. not currently displayed in thread pane

Does your problem goes away (temporarily) if you rebuild index?
If it doesn't then my problem is different (I still can't reproduce comment 6 or reporter).

The problem was resolved for me several versions ago... somebody said they see it in the 3.0 trunk but I don't use that.
