User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3
This problem appears on any page that opens a new window through Javascript, msnbc.com is just one of them.
What happens is that when I click a link that opens a new window through javascript (try clicking on the link saying "video headlines" for example) firefox almost immediately closes that window. If you click the link again it works though. This behaviour started recently; this version of firefox worked fine before and as far as I know I haven't installed or uninstalled anything that concerns firefox.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.click on any link that opens a new window through javascript
2.now firefox closes the new window
3.if you try to click the link again it works though
Actual Results:
new window is closed
Expected Results:
firefox shouldn't have closed the window
this problem just appeared out of nowhere as it seems, I've run this version of firefox for some time and never had this problem before

I might add that turning the pop-up blocker on or off doesn't help, neither does uninstalling and thereafter reinstalling firefox.

I also noted that sometimes firefox does not only close the pop-up windows but all open windows, hence ending the program's run.
I just tried your steps exactly, the window did NOT close itself. This must be a problem with your OS and not FF. Try reinstalling Java.
Or it might be you anti-virus, firewall, or combination of both. And keep in mind that some of these security wares need to be completely uninstalled before releasing their grip (Zonealarm for ex.)

of course I realize that this is an unusual error, but I have not installed or uninstalled anything lately and it worked perfectly before.
just because you can reproduce this doesn't mean that it's not a bug.
and my java engine has nothing to do with this as java is not involved.
believe me - I'm no novice, I know what my anti-virus (AVG) and firewall (ZA pro) is up to.
ok, got an idea for you then. do "Run", type firefox.exe /profilemanage and create a new profile to load. if this bug disappears, then something in your profile is f-ed up, else, it might be two specific of a bug to your comp to fix.
BTW, ZA really does do a lot of stuff that you probably don't know about, which is why I moved to Outpost Firewall Pro. Zonealarm locking my modem from dialing until ZA was completely unistalled in unacceptable. This happened in their v.6 Pro and v5 pro.

Possibly caused by an extension.

Erik, can you please try this with a new profile and see if you can reproduce the problem? This is probably caused by an extension or other change to your profile.
