User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9a4pre) Gecko/20070416 SeaMonkey/1.5a Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9a4pre) Gecko/20070416 SeaMonkey/1.5a When subscribing to new newsgroups, the window proposing downloading 500 headers is shown. When pressing the download button nothing gets downloaded and only blank panes are shown. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open the mail & newsgroups window 2. Right click on your news feed in the sidebar (news.mozilla.org) 3. Click 'subscribe...' A list of available newsgroups is shown 4. Choose a newsgroup to subscribe (mozilla.general) Click the subscribe button. Click OK. 5. The 'Download Headers' window is shown. Click 'Download' 6. The 'Download Headers' window disappears. Nothing gets downloaded, the message panes are empty. Actual Results: Nothing is downloaded as expected, message panes remain empty. I can't say exactly when this started. Surely it was OK some weeks ago. Expected Results: 500 message headers should be downloaded (default). It should be possible to choose and read the newsgroup messages.

I think the old nsIOFileStream code didn't fail if the file didn't exist, so a simple fix is to make sure the file exists before trying to create a local file input stream.
