In The DateBook in palmOS it is possible to rename the Custom 1-4 field. It would be great if mozilla could do the same

This is the backend support (all in XUL and js) to display a user preference specified string in place of the hard-wired "Custom 1/2/3/4" in both the address book display and edit screens. The user strings are set using the preferences: "mail.addr_book.displayCustom.label1", "mail.addr_book.displayCustom.label2", "mail.addr_book.displayCustom.label3", "mail.addr_book.displayCustom.label4"

I still need a UI to edit the fields. How would that be best handled? An additional frame under the Mail/News prefs group? Squeezed onto the "Addressing" frame? Or something else? However, alone this patch is still useful (at least others can set labels in their user.js files) and is trivial. I have cvs commit privileges, so I just need review and approval. Anyone? I can't change keywords, but if someone else can I think they should now be: ui,patch, review.

I'm having XUL problems, so I won't have a patch for 1.2.

Justin, are you still working on this?

I just received word by email from Justin (thanks) that he doesn't have time to work on this right now. Moving to Core address book & assigning to default owner for someone to pick up.

Hi Mark, is this based on user.js implemented? Just tried, but no sucess with eg: user_pref("mail.addr_book.displayCustom.label4", "OL_Cat"); Working with: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060516 Thunderbird/1.5.0.4 Mnenhy/0.7.4.0 - Build ID: 2007012204

(In reply to comment #10) > is this based on user.js implemented? The patch has never been reviewed or checked in, so it won't work. Feel free to try and update the patch to the current trunk as looking at it I wouldn't expect it to apply as it is.
