This is a copy of Bug 286059 but I'm reporting it against Thunderbird 2.
All of the ideas mentioned there are good ones. I'd like to also suggest that the checkboxes for selecting a folder behave in a four-state kind of way.
1st click: select the folder
2nd click: select all child folders (if applicable)
3rd click: unselect the folder
4th click: unselect all child folders (if applicable)
Or something less confusing. I'd even tolerate a right-click 'select all children'
Another good point from the original bug: if you add a folder and the parent folder was in the search, the new child folder should be as well.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a saved search folder containing a folder tree
2. Add a new folder inside this tree with some mails
3. Run the saved search
Actual Results:
The new folder isn't searched. So you have to manually add it to the search
folder .
Expected Results:
1. It could detect that it is a child and ask to include it.
or
2. In the create search folder dialog it could have been an option to do it
recursively.

No need for another bug just because of version change.
