RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 163498

People

(Reporter: allison.aa, Unassigned)

Details

User-Agent:       Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3
Build Identifier: version 1.5.0.10 (20070221)

Problem: sending an email to some members of a mailing list with bcc.
Currently, one can either select the (entire) mailing list by name and bcc from the drop-down (and thus send to everybody), or display all addresses as "To:"
It would be preferable if opening the Address Book, selecting a list and then "Write" produced the same drop-down menu as clicking on "To:"

Reproducible: Always

Do you mean bug 119977?
Shouldn't these

<https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=163498>
<https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=389559>

belong in one single bug, e. g. "Bcc handling in Address Book", which would
include lists?

A setting for an address to default to Bcc as soon as there are several
addresses included in sending a message might be a nice thing. Presumably, it
might be turned into part of electronic address preferences as in vCard etc.
standards (<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VCard>).

I'm not sure if this bug is a duplicate of bug 163498 or bug 119977. Given we haven't had any response from the reporter, I think bug 119977 is probably the closest.

I'm sorry, but this is probably *not* a duplicate of bug 119977 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=119977.

What this one is about, is to have some *but not all* members of a mailing list/group bcc. Not just being able to see that it is so (if it is at all possible - if not, that would be a dependency bug I guess).

In which case I think it is a duplicate of bug 163498. In any case I think it is highly unclear exactly what this bug is asking for - which is why I'd rather have it closed than open.
Are you positively sure that bug 163498 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=163498 is a duplicate of this one?

I see no unambiguous or direct mention of TB being able to handle a list or group in address book in such a way that some addresses *in that group* are Bcc: and some only To: or Cc:, which as I understand is what this bug (378531) is about.

In bug 163498 I only see mention of setting Bcc for *entire lists or groups*. No mention of different handling of some, but not all addresses in the list/group.

My suggestion for handling it would be to have a setting, e. g. "Personal only", "For your eyes only" or some such, for such addresses to default to Bcc, as soon as there are several recipients included when sending a message. Be that via inclusion in a group or list (those would then have to handle such a behaviour) or by manual adding of addresses (probably more iffy).

As module owner, I am saying that this bug is a) unclear in its intentions (and the original reporter hasn't clarified) and b) is close enough to be marked as a duplicate.
OK. I've filed this RFE instead: Bug 485914 - Set Bcc recipient properties in Address Book. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485914

Hope that's clearer. Unless I have an accident, I'll elaborate on it if any questions arise. :)
