My os Win XP home with all latest updates
When Firefox starts I get a msg box, titled 'Software Update Failed', with the following content:
"One or more files could not be updated. Please make sure all other applications are closed and that you have permission to modify files, and then restart Firefox to try again."
This has been happening for the last few weeks after a recent automatic update of FF. Bug appeared after automatic update. Have just done complete fresh installation and it's still there. Only occurs when I'm logged into my PC as a limited user. FF is installed as administrator user and works fine there. The problem is probably related to file or registry key permissions that are OK for an Administrator but not for a limited user. I always work as a limited user because this is supposed to be more secure from a virus point of view.
May be related to bug 376380 (nearest I could find in the bug search)
Best wishes,
John Pote
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install FF as XP administrator
2. Log into XP as limited user
3. Start Firefox
Actual Results:
Software Update Failed msg box appears. Click OK and FF starts. May have to go round this loop several times as the msg box keeps re-appearing. When problem originally appeared this was an endless loop only stoppable by killing the process.
Expected Results:
Straight to Firefox home window
My FF installation is very plain. No themes or plugins.

After installing Firefox as administrator you also have to start the application. Then needed registrations are done before any other limited user is able to use Firefox.
There should be a bug around which already covers this issue.
