User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3 Build Identifier: Version 2.0.0.0 (20070326) If you select a folder where no message has been selected yet, and then, you hit <Space> in the upper pane, the *second* unread message will be selected instead of the *first*. If there is no second message, the next folder with unread messages will be opened. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Choose folder wíth unread messages where no message has been selected yet. 2. Hit <Tab> until upper pane is focussed. 3. Hit <Space>. Actual Results: Second unread mail will be selected. Expected Results: First unred mail should be selected.
Actually, TB 1.5 selected the first message when hitting <Space>, be it read or unread. This was more convenient IMHO.

WFM with Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1pre) Gecko/20090621 Lightning/1.0pre Shredder/3.0b3pre I get the first unread mail selected. Wayne/Sid, occurs on Win? (I'm guessing WFM)

It also happens to me on WinXP. (TB3.0b2)
We need steps to reproduce (STR) - can anyone provide us with that ? Anything in Tools->Error Console ?
Whiteboard: closeme 2009-07-09
There's nothing in the error console. The STR in comment 0 reproduce the problem for me. For testing, just have two unread messages and no other messages in the folder. You have to click on a different folder then on the desired folder so that no message is selected in the message list. When you press tab you should see a dotted box around the first unread message, but it's not yet selected and there's nothing in the message pane. Pressing the spacebar then selects the second message instead of the first. Perhaps you have to set "mailnews.remember_selected_message" to false (that's my setting).
I'm not a spacebar guy, so I wouldn't enough know what's normal :)
Also, I just discovered that if I click on a folder that contains only read messages, pressing the spacebar won't select any of those messages. Instead it'll jump to the next folder that contains an unread message and select that. This seems wrong to me. IMO the spacebar should always select the next message in the current mailbox regardless of the read/unread state of any of the messages. There's already another hotkey to jump to the next unread message. IMO the only time the spacebar should duplicate that behavior is if you're on the last email in the current mailbox.
Confirmed here on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3pre) Gecko/20090818 Lightning/1.0pre Shredder/3.0b4pre ID:20090818054203 using STR in comment #0. More information: [A] If I execute STR in a folder that use sort by date grouped by sort (Today-Last week,...) all work fine. [B] But if I execute STR in a folder that not use sort by date grouped by sort, hitting TAB the first unread message is (I think) selected but not highlited (only dotted...) and when I press SPACE button, TB riglty select next unread message. I test with 2 new messages in a folder sorted by date. I'm not sure if this bug is rightly described as in current title: probably the problem is that TAB action not highlight (but select) the first message in a folder. But I'm not sure regarding deliberate behaviour.
Bryna what should the behavior be ?
I'm not sure if there are space bar designs to be found anywhere so I'm not clear on what the expected behaviour really is. I think the original comment 0 is a bug as the space bar should select the first unread, not the second. I am not sure that comment 7 is a bug. AFAIK the space bar always jumps to the next unread message and won't select read messages. In a quick test if you space bar through a message (page through it) it will jump to the next unread message in the folder. That test would make me believe that the space bar isn't designed to select read messages.
