There's now support for a dragend event which is fired on the source of the drag after a drop, so the custom code in the draggesture handler in calendar-month-view.xml that tries to check for the drag end state can be modified to use this.
As far as I can see, this works only in trunk? Neil, are there plans to include this in one of the next 1.8 branches?

Is this bug still valid after the recent drag'n'drop changes in 1.0pre?
I added a dragend handler in my last patch of Bug 416138 - Moving of all-day-events in weekview not possible, but shows possibility waiting to be reviewed.
