User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3
Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.0 (20070326)
I upgraded from Thunderbird 1.5.x to 2.0.x (using Zenwalk Linux package). Then this error appeared.
I receive emails news from "Ingenioren" they are filtered into a folder named Ingenioren. When attempting to access the email, it does not render in the message window (see URL - screen dump) but the email exist, and I can view the yellow tag.
Double-click to open the email also fails. The error message is:
The file <long-string> cannot be found. Please check the location and try again.
Maybe the reason is because the folder name is Ingenioren (well, actually it contains a special danish character - ø). Does the new Thundebird not like unicode or did the character encoding change? I am surprised though, that email filtering still works and sends new emails to the right folder.
Best regards,
Claus
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
The symptoms have been explained above. I did not setup an attempt to reproduce it, but give a suggestion to what could be the cause. I don't know enough details about Thunderbird to really know ...
Actual Results:
Email cannot be rendered. See URL (screen dump 1280 x 1024)
Expected Results:
As can be seen - I had expected to be able to read the email.
Using default theme (with Zenwalk - I assume this is the default Thunderbird theme - see URL for details). If the problem is with character encoding I wonder if changing the name of the folder could bring a solution ... (?)
I suppose if this is about character encoding that it would be a problem for many users, but I havn't seen any reports on it, so maybe it is not the problem.

I noticed that it is possible to attach a picture - this is better than leaving it in my "home" directory ...

Does it open if you put it in another folder without ø? Anything in the Error Console?

It is not possible to move the email (e.g. back to the inbox). The problem is that the emails got filtered into this specific folder. This has previously worked.
I tried to rename the Folder without danish characters - and LO AND BEHOLD now I can read my emails. Clever to see that mail filters are automatically updated.
As such my problem is solved - but - Thunderbird still has a problem with character encoding of folders ... why not use UTF-8 or such thing ... (?)
Best regards,
Claus

This indicates that mail folder file name and mail summary file name(.msf) are consistent, and ".msf" is read normally, but something wrong in reading mail folder file when Tb 2.0.
To Claus Futtrup(bug opener):
(Q1) What file/directory will be created when mail folder with "a special danish character - ø" is created by Tb 2.0? Normally accessed by Tb 2.0?
For ease of recovery in case of error, please test under test folder.
(1) Create a mail folder(say "TEST")
(2) Create a subfolder with "ø" under "TEST", and copy some mails
(3) Create a subfolder under subfolder made at step (2)
(4) Check file/directory hierarchy under TEST.sbd directory

I tried creating a folder with ø in it, works fine (the actual file is also named like the folder). If this was an old folder, perhaps the handling of non-ascii changed? Do you have the same problems if you create a new folder containing ø?

Reporter, does this issue still occur in the latest supported 2.0.0.14 / trunk nightlies?
