Update: This works OK for me on Mac 8.6 OS
Mac (2000-05-03-08 M16) On my Mac 8.6, I do not see this problem.
This works for me using 2000-05-03-08 m16 commercial build on mac OS 9.0. I can launch mail from Tasks menu or from taskbar. If there are other steps you did before trying to launch mail, it'd be helpful to detail those steps.
Particularly if you opened mail then closed it and tried to launch it again via Tasks menu, you might be hitting the "zombie" bug #31851
It freezed after I did the international smoketests by entering urls: home.netscape.com/ja(ko/de/(zh/cn))and strated mailtestby clicking the mail via task. When I restarted MAC, it is not reproducable.
have you been able to reproduce it since? cc'ing ducarroz in case he can reproduce and offer any help.
If this happened after you entered URLs in the browser, then it may be a browser problem. Do you wait until the page loads before you started mail? cwang - can you reproduce this? If not, we have to mark this worksforme.
I got crashes on my Mac 9.0....but not sure what's the problem from....
This problem is not stable. It happened again still on 2000-05-03-08 comm build. It seem a browser's problem, which block the mail. This time, when I clicked Mail via Task, the mail compose window didn't come up at all. It seem related to international sites because it happened when i di the international sites . I will watch it.
It hangs again when I click Task via Menu task bar on 2000-05-4-08-M16 comm build.

cwang: If you have macsbug on your machine, next time you reproduce this user command+power to force a drop into macsbug and save the report and attach to this bug. Then someone can try to figure it out from there.
I cannot reproduce this problem by using yesterday & today's morning commercial build....I can bring up the Mail from Tasks menu or from taskbar without hang....I am thinking this is browser problem (even I got crash from yesterday build should be browser or installation problem). Charles, you can change the Product to Browser if you are sure this is not mail problem anymore.
Just another FYI -- there is a general crasher when accessing menus for All platforms in 5/4 build. Some people seeing on mac, others not. see bug #38136. So I'm not so sure if today's mac build would be a good measuring source.
Charles, if you say this is due to int'l sites being viewed before invoking mail, you need to give us the exact steps and the sites visited. Thanks.
Lisa, this problem is not stable. I haven't found out exactly how it happened. it may be related to recent browser crash broblem. I will watch it in the next three builds to see if it is still reproducable. Thanks
This time I got it. I typed URl WWW.germany.de and click View->Translate. After that, I clicked Task -->MAil. It hangs. That was what I did before. Maybe not exactly this site. I will test more sites about this.
I wasn't able to reproduce this using 5/12 build.
Checked mac 2000-05-18-10-M16 comm build, changed to WORKFORME
