User-Agent: Opera/9.20 (X11; Linux i686; U; en) Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.0 (20070326) Running TB 2.0.0.0 on Fedora Core 6. Installed it about four days ago and it was working ok until a couple of days ago. Now, everytime I start it up, it checks for new mail as requested. If there is no new mail everything is fine. If there is new mail, it downloads it, then completely freezes. The download progress shows as usual but the blue progress bar doesn't go away once the mail download is finished. I can then do absolutely nothing in TB. When I click on a mail or toolbar button or any other control - they do not respond. When I try to close TB from the close X or file menu, the title bar stays at the top of the screen and the rest of TB disappears (I can then see my desktop "behind" it) The only way to get rid of it is to kill the process from my system monitor. I have no AV checking enabled. I do have junk mail training enabled but I deleted the training.dat file as suggested in the knowledgebase for a similar issue - that made no difference. I also uninstalled or disabled the only two themes and extensions I had installed. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start Thunderbird 2.New mail downloads (doesn't happen if there is no new mail) 3.Download completes and Thunderbird completely freezes Actual Results: The exact same thing happens EVERY time there is new mail. It NEVER happens if there is NO new mail. Expected Results: I would expect new mail to be downloaded and Thunderbird to still be useable. The first few times this happened the Talkback window appeared but it froze as well so I could not complete it. I've since disabled it.
Sure you are using the default theme? See bug 364328.
Version: unspecified → 2.0
I only had two extra themes installed and it was happening with them all, including the default theme. It does look very similar to the bug you quoted but it was happening for me even with mail notification turned off. I tried turning off automatic mail checking - in which case TB started OK, but the moment I did a manual mail check I got the same freeze response. I ended up uninstalling v.2 and going back to v.1.5.0.10 - which works perfectly. If you think this IS a dupe of bug 364328 feel free to mark it as such but there are some differences.
I have the same problem on Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 (Linux) - no filters. Thunderbird 2.0 always freezes after retrieving all mails for an account. It is *extremely* annoying. Theme: Azerty 3.0.1
My problem was related to bug 364328 - using default theme solved my problem.
Carren, what happens if you turn off notifications?
Carren, scrub comment 5, I see you had already done that? Does it work with 2.0.0.9?

Magnus, it is odd that this mimics bug 362225/bug 364328 - his build should have picked up the fix for linux. But we may never know - his email address bounces with unknown user. I didn't see any similar open bugs. => incomplete
