User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3 Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.0. (20070326) I have used Thunderbird for years. Then email transmissions started to fail and and required many retries and finally could not send at all. Downloaded Thunderbird 2.0 and still same problem. Ran a sniffer and compared to Eudora, which does run well. The Command: EHLO [143.238.251.130] shows during the connection phase with Thunderbird,(versions 1.5 and 2.0). By comparison the same command from Eudora shows EHLO bobfast-eb4b62f.bigpond.net.au, and connects well. That is my correct login. How does a DSN get into the field that should have my Login user name? These are correctly set up in the Preferences. Could this be affected in any way with recent Microsoft updates for XP? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. I just try to send a test email to myself and cannot send it. Emails to other address do not send either. 2. 3. Actual Results: I get a timeout and a cannot send message panel. Then it might ask me for my password, but that does not enable me to send the message. Finally I cancel. Expected Results: Email should be sent. I have tried reinstalling Thunderbird 1.5 and 2.0. I would have thought that if there was a corrupted file, that would rectify it. I have also scanned my system with two different virus scan programs and it is clean.

Receiving with POP3 works fine. It is only outbound on SMTP that fails.
Which kind of personal Firewall and/or anti-Virus Software (with trabsparent SMTP proxy) do you use ?
This is the Eudora successful transmission of an email.
Here is the transmission failure. Note the Ehlo command and the DSN instead of the User Name.
Same effect with Thunderbird 2.0
The problem has resolved itself when I changed my ISP. Something in Bigpond must have sent back a response that Thunderbird could not handle properly, but is doing fine with Netspace as my new ISP. That was rather a drastic solution.

Bob, thanks for closing the bug - however FIXED closure is reserved for bugs that have a known patch. Since we don't know if this was a valid problem or not, and now no way to determine technically exactly how it resolved, I'm changing this to WORKSFORME.
