User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.11) Gecko/20070312 Firefox/1.5.0.11
Build Identifier: Thunderbird 1.5.0.10

When Thunderbird(TB) downloads mail from the server (earthlink), TB reports that x new messages are in the Local folder. However, some number less than x are actually displayed. i.e. TB will display 6 new messages are in the Local Folder. When you look at the Inbox, only 4 new messages are in the Inbox. There are no messages in any of the other folders. This has been checked by looking at the messages in the Server before downloading and checking against the actual messages displayed.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Press Get Mail button
2. Reports how many new messages downloaded
3. Check actual new messages... Sometimes TB will display the same number of messages actually reported. Some times less than reported.

Win XP Pro (SP1 plus security patches).

Severity Level: Critical! Mail is being lost between server download and Thunderbird display!
Version: unspecified → 1.5
Have you tried 2.0? Also, try to delete the .msf file for the folder. Find it in your profile folder <http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder>.
version 2.0.0.0 (20070326)

Problem resolved after upgrading to Thunderbird v2.

Tested by leaving mail on server when downloading to verify receipt against what was sent. All messages remaining on server matched that received. No more lost emails.

Thanks,
Wayne
