User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.2) Gecko/20070222 SeaMonkey/1.1.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3 Firefox 2.0.0.3 Seamonkey 1.1.1 Mandriva 2007.1 (free) In these browsers "save as" or "save link as" bring up a dialog box which flickers, it appears to be resizing horizontally on the right edge fairly rapidly and continuously. It does this even when the display is sent to various other remote systems. The same browser binaries do NOT do this on Mandriva 2007.0 (different hardware) or Mandriva 2006.0 (identical hardware). The effect has been observed on X11 displays running blackbox, fluxbox, and under XP using X-Win32 (version 7.1). The test machine which is having these issues uses an Athlon64 3700+ processor. The only thing I've found which suppresses this effect, and then only for the first time the dialog comes up, is to run like this: firefox --sync adding -safe-mode and/or --no-xshm doesn't change this further. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. open firefox 2.0.0.3 (or seamonkey 1.1.1) 2. file -> save as (or right click on a link, "save link as" 3. the save as dialog will come up and flicker madly Actual Results: The save as dialog appears to be resizing continuously Expected Results: The save as dialog should have come up normally and not flickered. The flicker problem has been seen on two test machines. One was upgraded from Mandriva 2006.0 to Mandriva 2007.1, the other was wiped and a clean install of 2007.1 was performed. Others have seen this bug and they indicate it may be gtk related: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=31355 http://www.suckless.org/pipermail/dwm/2007-May/002491.html
Others have reported similar problems in Gimp when they had firefox doing this. However on my system Gimp 2.3.14 "save as" is well behaved and does not exhibit this defect.
Click on "Browse for other folders" so that the little arrow next to it points down and the flickering stops. Save from that "open" configuration and the next "save as" will also be "open" and won't be flickering. So long as the "browse for other folders" is left expanded the save as window will not flicker in this or subsequent sessions. However, close "browser for other folders" and the dialog will start oscillating the _next_ time it is opened.
This was a gtk+ bug, fixed in version 2.10.13. It should be safe to close.
