User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3 Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.0 (20070326) This is a long outstanding bug in Thunderbird. The Default SMTP setting has NO effect on the smtp host selected. Rather only the first host in the list is used. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.set second smtp host in preferences to default 2.send email 3.Thunderbird will use first host in list. Actual Results: wrong host used to attempt to send email Expected Results: default host should send email. While the work around for this is rather simple. Delete the top smtp host and add the desired host. This becomes painful when doing this every day for about a year or so. This is really a long outstanding problem.
I seem to recall changing the default smtp working fine when I've used it... have you set all the relevant accounts (account settings, account row in left pane) "outgoing server" to "Use Default Server"? (and also other identities via "Manage Identities" button if you have more)
I did not realize that I needed to set the outbound smtp server for each account. Having once done that, to set each account to use the default smtp entry, it all worked as expected. My guess is that some sort of check box or button that suggests setting all accounts to use the default setting on the Outgoing Server (SMTP) panel might help?
