User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070515 Firefox/2.0.0.4
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070515 Firefox/2.0.0.4
Since updating to 2.0.0.4 earlier today, roughly once each hour, the GUI indicating that a "new version" of Firefox 2.0.0.4 is ready to install, with the customary button options at the bottom of the GUI. Even if I re-install and re-start, after another hour, the Update Manager will bring up the same GUI again, as if it thinks the old version is still installed. I did confirm the version actually running is 2.0.0.4 from the Help/About menu options.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select "Re-Start" option on GUI. Let software re-install and re-start.
2. Run browser like you normally do.
3. After approximately one hour, the GUI to "Update to Version 2.0.0.4" shows up again.
4. Use Help/About to confirm Version 2.0.0.4 is actually installed.
5. (Optional) Repeat Steps 1 and 2. (Re-install and re-start a second time. Use browser for another hour.)
6. (Optional) After another hour, the GUI to "Update to Version 2.0.0.4" appears yet again.
Actual Results:
The Update Manager GUI re-appears each hour.
Expected Results:
Once the software is updated, the GUI shouldn't show up again, until a later update is to occur. (Like 2.0.0.5.) This problem never occurred before with prior installs.
This bug can be a nuisance, unless auto-update can be turned off.

Could you attach the following files to this bug. This would be great and would help us to reproduce your bug report:
- updates.xml and active-update.xml files from the application directory
- last-update.log and update.status from the Update directory (maybe update.status does not exists)
Also it would be great if you could answer the following questions:
-Your 2.0.0.3 Installation. Was this a fresh installation or a installation that exists since a long time (like from 1.5.x times and then installed 2.0 and then auto update from 2.0 -> 2.0.0.1 -> 2.0.0.2 etc) or was this a fresh install?
- Do you have Extensions installed (which one).
- Did you manually check for updates or did a dialog just come up?
Version: unspecified → 2.0 Branch

Why is it checking every hour? the app.update.interval pref should be set to daily (86400), not hourly (3600).
Maybe there's a problem writing out the prefs file, so it can't save the last time it checked.

Bug 376305 looks similar to this one.

Could be a dupe of bug 340535. If you have Skype or a Logitech WebCam installed fully quit these programs before attempting to update.

Another possibility bug 303595 if you are running a limited user account.
All the other att are in C:\Documents and Settings\owesan\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox
