Just upgraded to Thunderbird 2.0 from 1.5 and found that I had multiple connections established to my IMAP server. For every filter used there was an IMAP session opened for that filter. Filters didn't open IMAP sessions under 1.5 nor should they be under 2.0. Cannot find any setting for this.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open up Thunderbird
2. Let Thunderbird start receiving emails.
3. Check connections to IMAP server.
Actual Results:
Multiple unnecessary connections to IMAP server.

Expected Results:
One connection to server

try turning off the preview text - "mail.biff.alert.show_preview"

We update the folders so we can get the beginnings of the msgs to show preview text. If you don't want preview text, then we won't open the folders.

I see what is for now... however, when a person has probably 1500 filters and about 3000 IMAP folders (some of which has been touched by human visual input devices in several years -- the only access to some but not all is to filter in email like return receipts and others are there for archival purposes) this should be on a per folder basis not a global function or a global function with per folder overrides.

David, Connections are limited, correct? Will this have changed much under 3.x?
Summary: Filters on IMAP folders cause distination to open up an IMAP session → biff alert option show_preview with IMAP folders cause destination to open up an IMAP connections

simultaneous connections are limited, yes. This behavior won't change in 3.x because we need to update the target folders to fetch the message bodies for auto sync and gloda.

Assuming what George wants here is a per folder preference per comment 2..
If that's not accurate, please provide more detail.
