User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070515 Firefox/2.0.0.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070515 Firefox/2.0.0.4 Firefox just hangs endlessly and finally comes up with a blank screen. I can get into LJ no problem with IE. Have tried rebooting several times and this will get me to my LJ sign on screen, but no further. Once I enter my password and hit return, once again, the endless hang. I have no problem accessing any other site I've tried, bookmarked or otherwise. So strange. It appears to be something between my computer, this upgrade and LJ??? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.type in www.livejournal.com 2.or 3.press the #3 "favorite" key on my keyboard which has this in memory Actual Results: long hang, eventual blank screen. Expected Results: instantaneous connect to livejournal site. All the other "favorite" keys work just as they always have; only the livejournal key has stopped working. As well, Firefox will not connect when I type the URL in and bypass the favorite key. I have no problem connecting when I use IE.
Do you have any extensions installed?
(In reply to comment #1) > Do you have any extensions installed? > Yes, Aaron, I do. I will apologize up front right now for being very nontechnical, but I'm a quick learner and am very eager to help in whatever way I can to resolve this. I know greasemonkey is one of my extensions as well as the firefox icon you click to change the rendering engine of the current page. I also have the weather report extension. I'm sure there's a much better way for me to check and give you this information. If you would be so kind to tell me how to find and report this info to you, I would be more than happy to do it asap.
I'm not a Firefox programmer either (I tried, but found it too confusing :). Just following typical problem solving procedures. Non-technical is fine - your bug reports is decent. Have you tried disabling the extensions, then? I believe conflicts could cause this kind of thing. You might also look in Tools - Error Console to see if anything is appearing there...
Wow, thank you! I disabled grease monkey, cleared the Error console, rebooted again and tried all my "favorites" keys. As I reported earlier, they all appear to work normally except the one for LJ, which hung for ages and then resulted in a blank screen. I checked the Tools-Error Console and found over 200 (brand new since I rebooted) yellow warnings about error in parsing values resulting in Declaration dropped, and at the bottom of the page was a red stop sign error message, which coincided with my unsuccessful attempt to log on to LJ which read: uncaught exception: Permission denied to call method Location.toString What does that mean?
Well Beth, I don't know what it's about in detail, but I think it is not a bug in FF - possibly in Greasemonkey. Please feel free to log it with the GM team. I will close this one. If you still think it is a bug in FF please provide more details (you would need to investigate how GM works probably), and I can reopen.
