On Sunbird CTRL+A works fine. On Lightning - it doesn't work. Lightning: 2007053004 (0.5 RC1) Thunderbird: 2007032622 (2.0)
Lightning doesn't offer this functionality yet - therefore CTRL+A can't work.
Summary: CTRL+A doesn't work → Select all events/tasks in view using CTRL+A doesn't work
Lightning 0.7 has a menu item in Edit for "select all" and the item claims that CTRL+A should do that. But it doesn't. At least in the short run, this item should be grayed out in the menu if it's not going to be implemented. Platform: Lightning 0.7 on Eudora 8.0a (penelope 0.21+T'bird 2.x) running on WinXP-SP2.
This is WFM using a recent Lightning 1.0pre build. Maybe fixed by the new menu integration.
