User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3 Often some plain text file has an extension that makes firefox think that a helper application is needed, and firefox asks the user to choose a helper application. Quite apart from the fact that this dialog is rather broken: nobody wants to navigate the filesystem to find a helper - saving to disk and typing the name of the helper is much faster, and $PATH will make sure that this helper is found in a directory that the user need not even know about - a different issue is that often no helper is needed: the file is ordinary plain text, and one would like firefox just to display it. There seems to be no obvious way to tell firefox: do it yourself. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. (I reported this as bug 382796 and accidently used a Firefox 1.0 browser to report the problem, and the bug was marked invalid because of that. This time the problem is reported using a Firefox 2.0.0.3 browser.)
