User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070515 Firefox/2.0.0.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070515 Firefox/2.0.0.4 I've upgraded to the new Firefox and now saving (both Save Page As... and Save Link As...) fail. Changing the save directory has no effect, no files are saved. Since I can't save I c an't include my settings (about:config), but none have been changed for ages (long before the upgrade). There is no feedback regarding the falure, the dialog appears to complete normally. To reproduce, visit www.google.com and try Save Page As... eg. to the Desktop folder. No Google.html file appears. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. visit www.google.com 2. try File->Save Page As... (or Apple-S) 3. click the Save button 4. try and find the file; its not anywhere Actual Results: no saved file in the specified directory/folder (e.g. Desktop) Expected Results: would expect a .html file containing the page source in teh specified directory/folder.
Did you also test this in Firefox's -safe-mode or with a new profile? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode_(Firefox) http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Folder
I tried in Safe Mode and there's no change, still Save Page As... and Save Link As... do not save.
No problem with a new profile. So (given I can't save directly) how do I get the about:config info from the file system?
Well, you could try deleting the downloads.rdf file first. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Downloads.rdf Preferences are in the prefs.js file.
OK, "deleting" downloads.rdf fixes the problem. Actually I moved it somewhere safe. I'll attach the offending file as an attachment.
My system exhibits the same problem: Unable to save pages from browser. System: eMac with Mac OS10.3.9 Main Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070515 Firefox/2.0.0.4 — Firefox preferences set for automatic updates. Clicking on "Save Page As" in the File Menu results in the Save dialog box. However, clicking on save produces no result, or a result that is the same as Cancel. I typically export/save my weblogs at least every month. Apparently, I didn't notice that the files weren't being saved. My last successful save was in March. Accordingly, the problem may have started in April. I have made changes in Firefox or Firefox preferences. I presume the change occurred with an automatic update of Firefox.
Same for me. Mac G4 Dual with MacOsX 10.4.10. Error console says: Errore: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIPrefBranch.getComplexValue]" nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://global/content/contentAreaUtils.js :: getTargetFile :: line 496" data: no]
2007 Aug 16 Luckily, I had saved the download for Firefox 1.04 and have re-loaded the software. I used 1.04 which correctly saves a text file. Firefox/2.0.0.6 now correctly saves a text file with the Save As command.
