Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070515 Firefox/2.0.0.4
Opening a special URL hangs up the Operating System, in this case WinXP SP2 full served with all hotfixes.
Website Examples:
http://www.siemens.de
http://www.map24.de
CPU usage goes up to 100% and system can't be used any longer.
Downgrading to Firefox 2.0.0.3 fixes the problem. The URLs mentioned above work as expected again.
1st Client: No Java installed (Example: www.siemens.de)
2nd Client: Java SE RE v1.6.0_01-b06 (Example: www.map24.de
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Type in www.siemens.de
2. Wait for the result
3.
Actual Results:
The system hangs up, the forefox process has to be killed
Expected Results:
Showing website without hanging up
Standard theme is used.
I forgot to write, that a direct connection to the internet is used, no proxy settings are set. The Clients range from 1GHz to 2,4GHz CPU with enough RAM.

I tested those URLs with Firefox 2.0.0.4 in Windows XP.
They worked just normally, no problems.
Do you have the latest Java runtime installed? What about Java Appletcache?
Good question! I'm no crack about Java, so where or how can I check the Java Appletcache?
Java RE 1.6.0 Update 1 is the latest release (says www.java.com)
I also tested it with Java RE 1.5.0 Update 11 - no changes.
On the client without Java, the sites work at the moment.

In my case, an update of the applet cache was automatically downloaded and installed from java.sun.com
You can read more here: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/applet_caching.html
