It'd be nice if the unit test boxes did a build every few hours even if there are no checkins, since otherwise they fall off the Tinderbox waterfall page when nobody checks in for a while (like during the recent tree closure).

This is easy to add. What sort of interval should we use? Nine (9) hours seems like a reasonable amount of time to ensure they stay on the tinderbox.

9 seems fine

Yeah, tinderbox removes them after 12 hours of not reporting, so anything under that would work.

adding periodic scheduler set to 9 hours. Also removed unnecessary bm-xserve07 from the list of builders in both schedulers.

Could possibly be improved in the future to only fire if we haven't built in the last 9 hours, i.e. reset the 9 hour timer whenever the bonsai build scheduler is run.
Not considered a priority currently.
