User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 FreeBSD/i386 Firefox/2.0.0.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 FreeBSD/i386 Firefox/2.0.0.3 Whenever I need to select an application to open a file with, the file open dialog presents an opportunity to enter a path directly, without clicking throught the file system, by pressing Ctrl+L and entering the path here. When a path that corresponds to a directory with large number of files is entered, this causes the file open dialog to hang for a long time. I tried to reproduce this behaviour on other GTK applications but I couldn't; other applications' File/Open dialog containg the address bar, and don't react to Ctrl+L. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Click File/Open File 2. Press Ctrl+L, enter /usr/local/bin, press Enter 3. enjoy a coffee pause Actual Results: file/open dialog hangs for 30 seconds or so, then displayed the contents of /usr/local/bin in the file panel . Expected Results: display contents of /usr/local/bin ASAP. After all, on my system 'time ls -l /usr/local/bin > /dev/null' is 0,01s user 0,01s system 90% cpu 0,024 total ( there are ~2300 files ).

Are we applying an sort of file type filter to the dialog? (It should be shown the dropdown.)
Using Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.2pre) Gecko/2008072220 Minefield/3.0.2pre ID:2008072220 on Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 2 I opened up my ~/.nautilus folder (~600 files) and it did take longer than generally acceptable. It loaded about a third, then paused for a while, then loaded another third, paused for a bit, then loaded the rest. I ran: for i in `seq 1 2500`; do touch $i done in a folder (created 2500 blank files), and there was no lag in displaying the folder.
