Currently you can only browse "New and Updated" together. However, for some (many? most?) use-cases it's helpful to separate them.

An obvious example, which seems like the primary use-case of that list, is checking out new add-ons. I like to browse new add-ons to see if there is something I might find useful. I am not interested in the updated ones, because I've already seen them and the purpose and basic functionality of an extension doesn't change from version to version.

The proposed solution is to replace the "New and Updated" list with just "New". If a user wants to browse the updated add-ons, which I believe is a less common need, he can always select "Browse all Extensions" and sort them appropriately. There may be other solutions, of course. The point is to provide the ability to browse only new add-ons.
You can browse the newest add-ons if you click "browse all extensions" and then sort by "New Add-ons".
