Thunderbird's status bar displays the total number of messages and the number of unread messages. I would find it very useful if it could also display the number of currently selected (highlighted) messages. This should be rather easy to implement.

For example, this feature would be useful to count certain types of mails in a folder (by first sorting by subject and then selecting the respective subrange of messages with one type of subject). Much easier than moving the messages into a separate folder to see their number. I'm missing this function very often.
