Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070515 Firefox/2.0.0.4
Build Identifier: 1.5.0.12 (20070509) as well as version 3.0a1pre (20070624) as well as 2.0.0.4
Messages which have not downloaded completely due to a size limit set, will nevertheless be deleted on the mail server when the truncated message is handled.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. On a POP account, set the download limit pref in Account Settings>Disk Space> "To save disk space, do not download: X Messages larger than 2 KB"
Set a low value for the limit, say 2 (kb). Confirm OK.
2. Send the POP account a message which is over the set download limit.
3. Login to that account, select the Inbox and Get Msg.
4. Select the truncated message and move it to another folder. (For example the draft folder, or to the Trash folder because you want do download the whole message form another computer e.g. via a web mail access.)
5. Try to receive the mail: Either by "click here" link within the message display, or via opening another "clean" Thunderbird and receiving the mails there or by log in to the mail account via a web interface: The mail is gone on the server. (Yes, it is not only not downloaded by Thunderbird, it really has been deleted.)
6. Try the same procedure without moving the truncated message, save it as eml, and find that the "click here" is not linked. (Which of course is consequential, because when Thunderbird deletes the message, there is no target for the link.)
Actual Results:
The e-mail gets deleted at the server, therefore is gone before it can be received in full.
Expected Results:
The truncated mail should under all conditions stay at the server, for retrieval via "click here", or with another mail programme instance, or via a web interface etc. Thunderbird should delete mail when and only when they have been downloaded completely without truncation or abortion or error.
Bug 53255 reported that the "click here" link did not work. That's correct, but the mail actually being deleted at the server is more severe, because there is no possibility top get it back. (OK, you can scan the hard disk of the server for the deleted file, but that's no possibility for a simple mail user).
I tried a nightly build with fresh account settings, and the bug appeared again.
Severity: The truncated email is lost.
