We need to let people outside netscape put stuff on the ftp site. its my understanding that the current staging mechanism would erase any files that are put directly in the ftp directory which means that having ssh access to komodo isn't enough. Bugzilla sourceballs are currently kept on http://webtools.mozilla.org/tarballs/ since that was the easiest place for Terry to put them because he had ssh access to lounge but no access to the ftp site. These files however, really belong on the ftp site. There are other people we should give access to as well.
Waiting for new staging server to arrive.

Waiting for new servers.
Here's an interesting problem we need to find a secure solution. I thought you might find this interesting and I'd like to assign this ticket to you. This is very important issue because we will probably have to implement similar solution to our other clients and having it implemented first to mozilla.org will then enable us to leverage it to busapps and wit if they'll need it. So, the story is this... mozilla.org is staging all data in /share/systems/mozilla/ftp and it's mirrored to ftp.mozilla.org with rsync scripts. But this means that only internal people can add files to ftp.mozilla.org. So, we need to find a solution to add files to ftp.mozilla.org from elsewhere as well, and people being able to upload _securely_ files to the other staging area. I still want to do everything by staging and not let anyone to put files to ftp.mozilla.org directly to maintain better security. There are some web based tools available for things like this, or maybe we could do chrooted environment where people can scp stuff, maybe rsync uploads (well, we alsom have to think all platforms). There are many ways to do it and I'd like you to to look into alternatives and implement this. If this is done well and we have a good tool for this (which ftp uploads is NOT) it will be very valuable and useful for many groups. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Steve, please don't consider this as high priority. We have to focus to other areas in near future because of the merger. So, only touch this if you have extra cycles available.

noting that the order for the new ftp staging server was lost and that the prospects for this order getting re-generated are slim. Also, the merger won't happen for many months. We need external ftp staging now. I've filed bug 50228 to discuss setting up an ftp-stage server at sourceforge. Feel free to comment there. I would have used this bug to discuss this but this bug now has a further scope than just mozilla.org
Bug #50228 makes this obsolete.

Moving to nobody until we have better picture of where we'll be going with mozilla.org support by IC.
