Build Identifier: lightning nightly 1. July 2007

ALL my recurring events (i.e. birthdays) are displayed on the agenda for today.

This happens under linux and windows

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
Fritz, are this only allday events? I also observed this behavior after installing the first Lightning nightly with the mail/calendar mode.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Hardware: PC → All
it also happens for i. e. my weekly gym events lasting one hour, that are repeated 12 times (one short course) ..
and btw. likely due to this bug now at home my 2,5 GHz celeron is a little too slow for lightning calendar ... it lasts 7 seconds until the agenda is shown ...
Maybe a regression caused by checkin from bug 381415.
Can someone check these two events?
The first shows up in today, the 2nd does not (on my side):

DESCRIPTION:Previously known as Soweto Day.\n\nIn 1975 protests started
in African schools after a directive from the previous Bantu Education
Department that Afrikaans had to be used on an equal basis with English
as a language of instruction in secondary schools. The issue however\,
was not so much the Afrikaans as the whole system of Bantu education
which was characterised by separate schools and universities\, poor
facilities\, overcrowded classrooms and inadequately trained teachers. On
16 June 1976 more than 20 000 pupils from Soweto began a protest march.
In the wake of clashes with the police\, and the violence that ensued
during the next few weeks\, approximately 700 hundred people\, many of
them youths\, were killed and property destroyed.\n\nYouth Day
 commemorates these events.
END:VEVENT
END:VCALENDAR

I have deleted the event and re-entered it, but it keeps on showing up in the Today tab.

The following event does not show up under the today tab:

DESCRIPTION:\"The day is one of our newly created public holidays and its
significance rests in recognising aspects of South African culture which
are both tangible and difficult to pin down: creative expression\, our
historical inheritance\, language\, the food we eat as well as the land
in which we live.\n\nWithin a broader social and political context\, the
day's events…are a powerful agent for promulgating a South African
identity\, fostering reconciliation and promoting the notion that variety
is a national asset as opposed to igniting conflict.\n\nHeritage has
defined as \"that which we inherit: the sum total of wild life and scenic
parks\, sites of scientific or historical importance\, national
 monuments\, historic buildings\, works of art\, literature and music\,
oral traditions and museum collections together with their
 documentation.\"

Bug 386502 says that the storage provider returns incorrect items after the fix in Bug 381415. Maybe this is what happens here.

Fritz, Martin: Does this happens only with the storage provider or with other providers too?
i have events from local and from webdav in my "today" agenda

It also happens when I subscribe to an ICS calendar.

Marcel, the first one is from the past and shows up in Today-tab due to this bug. The second event is in the future and seems not to be affected by this bug.
Yes, it seems that only events from the past are effected. Can you confirm this?
Confirmed as regression from Bug 381415:

Works in Lightning 0.5pre 2007-06-28 13:53 mozilla1.8 build
Fails in Lightning 0.5pre 2007-06-28 20:09 mozilla1.8 build

I did some testing with a daily repeating event and found the following: For recurring events that start in the past the first occurrence is shown in the Today section of the Agenda. Following occurrences that also start in the past are not shown in Agenda (as expected).

I think this is one occurrence of the issue described in Bug 386502.
Summary: recurring events (i.e. birthdays) are displayed on the agenda for today → First occurrence of repeating event is shown in Today section in Agenda
Version: unspecified → Trunk
Depends on: 386502
I experience exactly the same issue with ics calendar.
I am experiencing the same issue.
As of today the problem doesn't exist any more in my Lightning (0.7 pre 2007-07-11) with TB 2.0.0.4
Maybe the patch from Bug 332193 fixed this also - somehow.

Is this bug fixed?
I can confirm that it's fixed on Linux. I'm using Thunderbird 1.5.0.12 and Lightning 0.7pre build 2007071103 (Ubuntu Feisty).

I would confirm on my Windows machine, but it's experiencing hardware issues...
Works also for me now. Win XP Pro, Thunderbird version 2.0.0.5pre (20070710) and Lightning build 2007071103.
Same here. Problem has gone away.
Win XP
TB 2.0.0.5pre 20070630
Lightning 0.7pre 2007071103
I can not say that this problem is gone.

Try this:

- create a recurring event, start date 'Today', recurring rule: daily, 5 times
- check the agenda tabpage -> looks ok
- restart Thunderbird
- check the agenda tabpage again -> Only the first occurrence at 'Today' is visible, but no events under 'tomorrow' and 'soon'

I noticed the same sort of thing with some all day events showing up as "Today" when they should have been "Tomorrow". I'll see if I can reproduce it and post the steps.

See bug 389036 for the new regression.
This has been fixed by bug 386502. Please reopen if you disagree.
