My firefox window has a 1" deep gray bar below the status bar now. No changes of note.

Gray bar  below status bar.  No changes of note.  I uninstalled and reinstalled, restarted.  Also, the "reading" indicators do not stop (the spinner or the blue progress bar in status bar.

gray bar.  I'd be happy to send a picture if yo9ur bugzilla allowed me to attach files

Expected Results:  
regular window

only things different is I uninstalled symantec Internet security.  Doubt that has an impact

This is often caused by extensions. You can test this also if you start Firefox in Safe Mode http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode

Thanks.  You are of course correct.  I did search KB before posting but did not get that article.  Sorry for the fuss.
What did you search the KB for?  Maybe the article can be tweaked to show up for the terms you searched for.
