Sorry if this seems ridiculous, but I have a customer wanting to switch to Outlook because of this...
Now the real details:
If you set the Inbox's view to "Grouped By Sort" and have as sort "Date", the sections for "Today" and "Yesterday" should also display the date of today and yesterday. Perhaps giving a date-range for "Last week", "2 weeks ago", ... could also be implemented.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Inbox
2. Select View -> Sort by -> Date
3. Select View -> Sort by -> Grouped By Sort
Actual Results:
Inbox is correctly split into date-ranges, but there are no real values for the ranges.
Expected Results:
Instead of "Today", my customer would expect something like "05.06.2007" or "Thursday, 05.06.2007"
I consider this interesting from the bug 315114 point of view. In this way (weeks group reffering to this week/last week as in calendar not relative to today ..) the date range for weeks may become more meaningful (along with week# in year?) especially related to the calendar extensions, now aiming for better integration.
Also this may be necessary for the bug 315114 to be clearer if those changes eventually land ..
Depends on: 315114

Confirming as a valid RFE. This may resolve a lot of the ambiguity discussed in now bug 505981 on those labels, though it implies that the labels can no longer be a string constant. I don't think it should be the default display, but an option for those who want a more specific labeling of those groups. It could be tied to the mail.ui.display.dateformat.today setting, assuming that a user who wants to see the date displayed with today's messages would also like to have the explicit date in the date groups.
