Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.4 (20070604)
If I try to 'save as' an e-mail to a folder in my 'documents', an icon appears in the folder but I cannot open the e-mail, I see a dialog box that says "the file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." I deleted the program and reloaded it but the problem persists.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Please see above
2.
3.
Actual Results:
always the same
Expected Results:
saved the file to the folder in a form that I could open as a file in the documents folder
I was able to save an attachment as a single entity but not the e-mail as a whole or any e-mails without attachments

Is Thunderbird set as default mail client? Try resetting it as default.
Does File > Open Saved Message work?
Version: unspecified → 2.0

I suppose if the question hasn't been answered 1.5 years later, it's safe to assume RESO INCO...
