User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070515 Firefox/2.0.0.4
Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.4 (20070604)
I'm used to the Outlook Express UI that allows users to go through account folders by clicking keys. For instance, clicking [I] jumps from 'Inbox' in one account to 'Inbox' in another, as [S] goes from 'Saved' to 'Sent'. This is easier for folks with physical limitations than using the mouse and keyboard up/down to go from folder to folder.
Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Move cursor to 'All Folders' pane
2. Press desired key to go to corresponding folder (i.e., [T] for 'Trash', [S] for Sent
Actual Results:
Nothing
Expected Results:
Jump to folder that begins with corresponding letter

I think that this bug should be wontfix.
For example I have a complex folder-tree with two distinct accounts, news & rss and local folder node that is related to another 3 accounts with more subfolders.
In my case, if
>press desired key to go to corresponding folder (i.e., [T] for 'Trash', [S] for Sent
what account should be choiche?
Reporter what you think about this?
Component: Mail Window Front End → Folder and Message Lists

ps (my two cents): using for example [I] to jump to various Inbox of all my account is bad because for me is more fast direct mouse clicking.
I have a boss who just started using Thunderbird that desperately wants this feature. He has lots of folders, more than 100 or so. He organizes and archives incoming email using folders, which everone does. The thing is Outlook (&Express) crashes with that much archiving so he moved to Thunderbird.
But everytime he tries to move a message to some folder that is down below he has to scroll down the folder tree and move the message. And then comes up the next message which should go to one of the first folders, then he scrolls back up the tree and moves the message. He complaines that if he could just type the first letter of the folder name and the folder should come up. Or even better if he could start typing the folder name and the folder comes up while he is typing. Like it does on select boxes.
For more than one account and folders with the same name, maybe a howering search box could come up as one types - like we have on firefox that comes up when we press "Shift+/" - that would help navigate through the mathing folders, or the unmatching folders could disappear.
The problem with scrolling is that it can take some time if you have to navigate from one end point of the folder tree to the other end and it becomes harder to spot the folder you are looking for throught many folders. It would be much easier to spot the folder you are looking for if it were highlighted.
I think this is related with https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=387423

My first thought was extension fodder, but i guess this could be useful if implemented correctly.

Probably would have to be something like the Find bar you get by Ctrl+F, but on bottom of the folder pane instead if that has focus. Otherwise at least single key hotkeys would cause problems.
