The bug can be reproduced on trunk version 3.0a1pre (2007071003)
snv68_vermillon_69
The bug exists on windows XP, thunderbird 2.0.0.4(20070604)

OS: SunOS → All
I tried the latest trunk build (2007071114), the "Sender" was removed form quicksearch dropdown menu, is this a bug?
In trunk, use "From" instead of "Sender"?
Yes, Sender was changed to From on trunk.
The strange thing is that if I select "From", the listed messages don't have a sender email address which contains the query string. The query doesn't seems to get the right parameter? That's why "From" returns the same values as "To or Cc".
Summary: Using "sender" in Quick search got the messages as using "to or cc" → Using "From" in Quick search got the messages as using "To or Cc"
Version: 2.0 → Trunk
Hardware: PC → All
Summary: Using "From" in Quick search got the messages as using "To or Cc" → Using "From" in Quick search of Sent folder got the messages as using "To or Cc"

Have you configured the columns to display?
Click the icon on top right of the listed messages, in the drop down menu, select columns to display.
If you don't select "From" ,the sender query string won't display in the messages list.
I hit the same bug, and I do have configured the columns to display. What seems to happen is that on any folder that is the "save outgoing messages to" folder for any identity:

 - they get a special different icon in the folder tree (that's OK and not subject to this bug)
 - any quicksearch on the "sender"/"from" is executed as a quicksearch on the "To or CC".

Probably the person that coded this behaviour thought that nobody would ever search by sender in a sent mail folder; that assumption is wrong:
 - some people prefer to use the same folder for sent mail and received mail, because this allows to follow a thread completely from _one_ folder instead of two.
 - some people use multiple identities, and put the sent mail for them in the same folder. It then makes total sense to search for mail sent under a specific identity.
Patched Thunderbird finished building, so I have now tested patch 329487, it works for me.

Seems there is a patch in bug 387505 which is a more complete solution, if I skimmed it correctly.

Magnus, you probably meant to point towards another bug, but typed the wrong number, or typed the comment in the wrong bug?
Ah yes I meant bug 259914.
this is very probably same as bug 327600 (and leads to bug 299109 for the sent in inbox case)

Patch that should correct this bug (against 2.0.0.14)

Does look like fixing it as part of bug 259914 is the way to go.
Depends on: 259914

That has now happened, and this bug should be closed.
