Eudora crashes on some corrupt embedded graphics. Embedded graphics always display even if "use microsoft's viewer" is off. Should be able to suppress embedded graphics too.

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.11) Gecko/20070312 Firefox/1.5.0.11 Build Identifier: Eudora v7.0.0.16 Eudora displays embedded graphics in spam in all cases. There is no option to disable this display. There should be. Some spammers send corrupt graphic files which actually gpf eudora, which entails going into the eudora embedded directory, deleting the files and then restarting eudora to prevent a crash on restart if the mail message window is still open. Clearly some users would not know/be able to figure this workaround out and their eudora would remain disabled and crash on startup. This is a serious bug and should be fixed. Additionally the graphics rendering engine should not crash on bad embeddeds. One spammer is sending out embedded graphics which arrive without extensions which crash eudora, changing them to .jpg stops this crashing, but without extension why are they attempting to be rendered at all? I just tested by dragging one of these graphics into mozilla and it renders as jpg correctly. Mozilla must be able to determine the type of file it is even without extension, and renders it as a graphic. Eudora does not. Eudora should not try to render corrupt files, files without extension, and graphics rendering should be entirely disableable. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Mail with embedded graphic arrives 2.Graphics render in eudora. 3.Some graphics are corrupt and crash eudora. Actual Results: Eudora renders graphics that are not desired. Eudora crashes on corrupt graphics. Expected Results: Not rendered graphics at all Not crashed on graphics that are corrupt or missing extension.
File renders correctly with extension changed to .jpg File renders correctly in mozilla as is.
Summary: Embedded graphics always display even if "use microsoft's viewer" is off. Should be able to suppress embedded graphics too. → Eudora crashes on some corrupt embedded graphics. I'll mark this bug as invalid as only Penelope bugs should be entered here, and since Penelope is not based on the previous Eudora it is unlikely that any problems with the older Eudora will be present in Penelope. You should upgrade to Eudora 7.1 via the Eudora web site as it addresses, I believe, a problem with crashing displaying malformed GIF images. Might also fix the problem you are seeing. Matt
