Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.5) Gecko/20070713 Firefox/2.0.0.5

When I am using my Firefox browser, it freezes for 2-3 seconds and it does it very often. It is very annoying since it happens very frequently. If I am typing an e-mail, I will keep typing and nothing will appear on the screen. Suddenly, it will unfreeze and the letters show up.
I don't know if this is related, but the error console shows this very often as well:
Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x8052000f (NS_ERROR_FILE_TOO_BIG) [nsIFileOutputStream.init]"  nsresult: "0x8052000f (NS_ERROR_FILE_TOO_BIG)"  location: "JS frame :: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsSessionStore.js :: sss_writeFile :: line 2026"  data: no]
Source File: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsSessionStore.js
Line: 2026

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

I don't know if this is related. But when I ask Firefox to save my tabs and restore them the next time, that almost never happens. It goes back to some ancient state of the tabs which never seems to get updated.

One tab that is almost always running is Yahoo mail (the new one). Don't know if it is related. The only reason I bring this up is because I turned OFF the Yahoo toolbar earlier today and it seems like the frequency of the problem with the freezing has gone down. But I cannot be sure.

Could you go into your profile folder ( http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile ) and tell us how big your session.js file is?
There isn't a file called session.js anywhere inside the profile folder.
However in a folder called "kn96lxrh.default" there are 1000 files called
sessionstore-[#].js where [#] goes from 1 till 9999. Not sure if they are
supposed to be there or not. They all seem to have been created around the
date that I installed
There is another file called sessionstore.js which is 19,166 bytes large.

Hope this data helps.
sorry, you're right, it's called sessionstore.js, and you should only have one of them. for some reason firefox is creating a new one all the time and this might well be what is causing your hitching.

This bug smells like bug 351551 but that was fixed apparently. I'll take the liberty of CC'ng Simon Bünzli as he might be interested in this or know more.

Preetham: Deleting all sessionstore-[#].js files should fix your issue (Firefox 2.0.0.5 prevents those files from being recreated).

It might furthermore still help to exclude sessionstore.js from being scanned for viruses (and from being indexed by a desktop search engine such as Google Desktop, should you use one).

Thanx Simon. I removed all the sessionstore-[#].js files and that seems
to have taken care of the problem. Guess I should have filed this bug much
sooner cause I have been dealing with this bug for almost 6 months now.
I have also turned it off from being scanned for viruses.
Hope this has completely resolved the issue.
