These two machines have recently been freed up, and are being repurposed for build machines. We'd like to reimage them, before we start to use these, so we know we have clean installs of OS, and no lurking other surprise installed apps which might cause problems for builds. I've confirmed offline, there is nothing on these machines currently that needs to be saved, so its ok to just blow away everything and install fresh...
Where did these machines come from? Who made the call to move them to build infra? I'd like to know where they are coming from to verify they are done and keep inventory up to date. Generally, let us know if you need hardware and we'll find it for you - stuff should come back into us, then be re-allocated, with new machine names, installs, etc.
There's some confusion here; these are build machines and have always been build machines. So I'll talk to coop about what these machines were originally used for and whether or not they need to be reimaged. Immaterial of the answer, do we have an Intel Xserve image lying around, or will we be reinstalling from CD, or?
Yes, we'll take care of this tomorrow. Cause I <3 build.
I have the ref Intel image from bm-xserve05 that I've been using to build.

I am pretty sure these are ppc's, so the intel ref image wont work. Also, preed says this may not even be needed, so waiting on confirmation.
These Macs do *not* need to be reimaged. Both machines have previously been used as tinderboxen, so they can have their /builds/tinderbox/ dirs removed if necessary, but should otherwise be sitting at the ref image.
invalidating due to comment #6.

After further thought, and offline discussions, as these machines will be used for production, I'd still like to get these re-imaged back to a known state before they are used in a shipping/production situation. By the way, I confirmed these are Intel based, not PPC: ... bm-xserve07:~ cltbld$ uname -a Darwin bm-xserve07.build.mozilla.org 8.8.4 Darwin Kernel Version 8.8.4: Sun Oct 29 15:26:54 PST 2006; root:xnu-792.16.4.obj~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 i386 bm-xserve07:~ cltbld$ ... bm-xserve12:~ cltbld$ uname -a Darwin bm-xserve12.build.mozilla.org 8.8.4 Darwin Kernel Version 8.8.4: Sun Oct 29 15:26:54 PST 2006; root:xnu-792.16.4.obj~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 i386 bm-xserve12:~ cltbld$ ...

So to be clear, I can do this whenever, right?
yes. there is nothing on these machines we need. Reimage at will.
Both have been re-imaged.
